A conversation with my sister

Me: I don't know what I'm going to make for dinner.

Sister: I have a great idea! Go in the kitchen and open the cupboards and look for stuff that would go together. Voila!

Me: Oh gee thanks, that was a brilliant idea.

Last One. Really.

I know, I know. I go weeks (or at least days) without posting, and then I post several things all at once. I really don't know what my deal is. Sorry.

But this is the last one tonight. It is, I promise!

We finally have our professional wedding pictures. It only took 6 months for them to get from the photographer to my mother to me. Oh well. I got to see proofs online after just a few weeks. Now I have them all on CD so I can make as many copies as I want :)

Here are a few of them, just for fun. Collage style. Because collages are cool. And because I can post more pictures that way :) Anyways, enjoy them. These are just the ones with groups of people.


I'll have to post the couples shots another day. I'm getting tired. My bed calls to me. And besides, Friday is my early day...I'll be at the temple by 6! It's my favorite part of the week.

Yes, Another Post Tonight

You can't say I didn't warn you.

So just a moment ago in my last post, I mentioned that today wasn't the best day ever. I had some assignments that were not going well, and some panic issues, etc. So that was fun. And really, this whole week has been extremely stressful.

That is why this post is going to be about things that have made me happy this week. Look for the silver lining, you know. This, my friends, is what it's all about.

1) A letter from my missionary brother.

2) A husband who will do laundry and make dinner while I am doing homework...without even being asked!

3) A teacher who was unexpectedly understanding and kind. I think this might have had something to do with the fact that I was sobbing and shaking uncontrollably. (Let's just say that I do NOT do well in debate situations.) But hey, all's well that ends well.

4) Friends who will listen to me and comfort me even when I'm being irrational and just a little bit crazy.

5) Random flowers from an anonymous sender (not my husband). I think I know who it was, because she's the same person that I'm specifically talking about in #4 (although there are a lot of people who also fit this description).

6) Blogs of people I don't even know that remind me to look for the good in everything. (I just realized that I have 115 blogs on my Google Reader...that's a lot)

7) I won a contest! I correctly guessed what day would be the first official, measurable snow in Alaska where Scribbit lives. (You should read her. She is awesome.) Anyways, my awesome prize came in the mail on Monday and absolutely made my day! Such a simple little thing, but it really made me happy. Scribbit, if you happen to read this, thank you. He's such a sweet little guy :) and you can't even imagine how perfect the timing was! Also, you have really pretty handwriting (and I am very random). Anyways, I'm posting pictures of the coolest contest prize ever.

My missionary

A lot of you probably know that Brother1 left last week to serve a two-year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is currently in the Missionary Training Center (MTC) here in P-town.

And since we live just down the street from the MTC, my dad and my brother flew out from NC last Monday to stay a few days and pick up a few last-minute items so they didn't have to cart them cross-country.

Brother1 went into the MTC last Wednesday, 8 October. Husband was able to get off work too, so the four of us went for his orientation.

Yes, I cried. But only a bit. And mostly because I'm so proud!

I cry a lot (did you read my last post?). It's something I get from my mother.

But at least I wasn't having a complete emotional breakdown (we did see a couple of those, but Brother2 (age 16) was sad we didn't see anybody pass out).

I don't have any pictures because my camera battery was dead (I didn't realize it until it was too late to charge it). Brother1 has some on his camera, and I told him to email them to me/the family, but I don't have them yet. When I do, I'll post them.

Daddy sent him a letter almost as soon as we got back from dropping him off (I hear that this is a very good thing. Mail is good. And not getting mail for a week is not good.) and I sent him one a couple of days later. My family got their first letter on Saturday, and I got mine today. HURRAY! It was kind of a crappy sort of day, so it made me very happy to find that in my mailbox when I got home. He is so cheerful and upbeat. He sounds like he is learning a lot and having a great experience so far. I just couldn't be prouder of my missionary!

Want to know something pathetic? Well, ok, 2 things.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, so I've got some catching up to do on posting. I'll be posting a couple more tonight as well.

Stuff of absolutely no consequence

Sometimes we watch the show How It's Made on Discovery. It's pretty cool most of the time. Last night one of the segments was about "sanitary napkins." It was weird. But interesting. They even gave instructions for how to use them...personally, I think it's pretty self-explanatory! But it cracked me up. Is it appropriate to talk about this on a blog? Oh well, I just did!

Last night we were hanging out with my friend Christina. She wanted to go to Best Buy to get the Iron Man DVD that just came out. While we were there, we also looked at all the awesome Disney movies that are currently available (does anyone else have a problem with the "Disney Vault"? Because I think it's dumb that they lock away their movies and then charge so much for them when they finally release them again for a short time!) and I just couldn't resist buying one of my favorite movies I used to watch as a girl -- Bedknobs and Broomsticks with the fabulous Angela Lansbury (also the voice of Mrs. Potts of Beauty and the Beast) and David Tomlinson (Mr. Banks on Mary Poppins)! Awesome. And it was one of the cheaper Disney movies. I watched it last night, too. Husband thinks it's ridiculous, but I love it.

Did you know it was based on a book? From what I remember, it isn't much like the book, but they're both good. In 4th grade I did one of my book reports on it (we had to do one every couple of weeks). If we made some sort of visual aid, we got extra points. I made a bed and painted one of the knobs yellow instead of brown. It was a pretty amazing bed, if I do say so myself.

A few months ago I blogged about how I kept hitting my head on stuff. I am pleased to say that I am recovered from that disease now, but it must be contagious, because Husband's got it! He's hit his head at least 3 times in the last 3 days. Since he laughed at me, I feel justified laughing at him. That's wrong of me, very wrong. I'll be nice now. But it is pretty funny!

Random Observations

Here are a couple of things that I saw on campus the other day.

(1) The quickest way to get to my Monday afternoon class is through the BYU Bookstore. The other day as I approached the entrance (for those of you who know the layout, I'm talking about the one by womens' clothing), I saw a line of people blocking the doorway. After a struggle to get through, I looked over to see what was the holdup. I saw a woman holding a camera facing a man and two women posing for a picture. All the people in the doorway were standing in line for a picture! Since I couldn't see who it was, I looked around for a sign. And then I wanted to go back and stand in line. Because, "OH MY HECK IT'S KIRBY HEYBORNE!!" I'm being sarcastic here. But it really was Kirby. I'm just not that silly :)

(2) Some people have absolutely no sense of what items of clothing should and should not be worn together, even when they're trying to keep up with current "fashion" (I use that term loosely because what is "fashionable" or "trendy" right now is really awful). Case in point: I saw a girl who was wearing this ensemble:
-shiny/sparkly mustard yellow flats/sneakers
-black and white diagonally checked asymmetrical knee-length skirt
-bright pink tshirt
-purple chunky necklace
-bright blue scarf wrapped several times tightly around her neck and tied there
-early 90s glasses, and I'm pretty sure the glass was fake.
Personally, I don't think that any of these pieces should be worn, ever, let alone in combination! But I'm not judging her. I just think she's a little...misguided. And this sort of thing is normal!

I'm an awful person. Shame on me.
